Inspired by the example of New York's North Brooklyn Runners group, a gang of local joggers decided to start their own Tokyo version in 2011. The pitch: all of their runs would start at midnight. This month's Midnight Runners meet starts at Time Out Café & Diner in Ebisu and follows a 7km route to the Shibuya scramble crossing and back – hardly the most arduous of challenges when you've got 90 minutes to complete it. Once they're finished, the runners will retire to the café for an after-party that runs until dawn, complete with food and free-flowing drinks.
