Review

Kachidoki’s Kanemasu opens at four, and patrons come streaming through the door early even on weekdays. The proprietor, schooled in traditional Japanese cuisine, brings in the freshest ingredients daily to create some truly appetising snacks and dinner dishes. The prices are higher than at a typical standing bar, but the quality of the food makes up for it. A colourful variety of the freshest seafood, simmered shiitake mushrooms and omelet come together in the sushi box (¥1,500), a harmonious medley that delights both the eye and the taste buds. Also, from the signboard menu, the sea urchin beef roll (¥3,000) is a sumptuous à la carte dish of Japanese marbled beef, wrapped with Baffin sea urchin and shiso leaf. The drinks range from beer and cocktails to Dassai sake and other spirits. You'll want to have a budget of ¥4,000 to ¥5,000 per person for the night. Find the street entrance on the ground floor of the Kachidoki View Tower, and watch out for random closing days (usually Wed – we found out the hard way a couple of times).
