5 to try: falafel

King Falafel

Here in Tokyo, falafel may not have hit the same chain store-producing level of popularity yet as it has abroad, but the number of cafes including it on the menu is increasing, and the number of shops specializing in it has started to grow. With our vegetarian readers, particularly, in mind, Time Out Tokyo has found the best five in the city.

Sannohashi: King Falafel

The owner of this falafel stand is from Israel and the pita bread he uses is ordered from Jerusalem and certified kosher. The pita pockets are filled with coin-shaped falafel patties (fried fresh in front of you after your order is put in), hummus, salad, pickles, onion, spicy sauce and King Falafel’s secret special sauce. The fresh hummus and special sauce blend wonderfully with both the falafel and the other ingredients, for a perfectly balanced taste.
