Shibuya: Mister Kebab

Mister Kebab

Two years in a central location have yet to put Mister Kebab on the map ('the Japanese, they do not know kebabs,' Mister Kebab himself laments), which is a shame, as the kebab wraps that take pride of place on their menu are loose as a goose and well worth writing home about. Much like the Arabian shawarma, the trick here is to allow the meat and vegetable plenty of space within the wrap, so that the juices run free and the whole thing threatens to crumble in your hand. Go for the white sauce (yoghurt and garlic) for an authentic taste, but be warned — if you aren't careful, it can spill out and leave a rather suspicious stain on your jeans (we learnt the hard way). Also worth noting, Mister Kebab has a remote-controlled robot slicing his meat, bringing the humble kebab bang up to date, Shibuya-style.

Meat: The beef wrap is a thing of meaty beauty.

Pita: Freshly toasted tortillas substitute the usual pita, so bonus points to Mister Kebab for standing out.

Vegetables: The usual cabbage and tomatoes, but not as tightly packed — a good thing indeed.

Sauce: The white sauce may cause a problem when you breathe it back over your colleagues and friends, but who cares when it tastes this good?

Price: 600 yen — marginally more expensive than usual, but well worth the extra yen.
