You won't find any meat, fish, eggs or artificial seasonings in the curries served at this vegetarian Indian restaurant, an endearingly scruffy joint in a basement not far from Okachimachi Station. Hand-written signs on the walls at Vege Herb Saga caution diners that their orders won't be arriving in any hurry, and they ain't lying – though the friendly waiter goes out of his way to keep people entertained while they wait. It's worth waiting, too: the kitchen is equally adept at North and South Indian style dishes, including curries, kebabs, dosas and chaat, and each dish tastes like it was actually prepared from scratch rather than merely reheated (an all too common complaint at Tokyo curry shops). If you're looking for a hearty feed, opt for one of the ¥1,980 thali sets, available in both North and South Indian styles, which will have you waddling out of the door when you finish. Note that the restaurant is entirely non-smoking, and doesn't serve alcohol.
