Review

Haritts is so hidden, it's a surprise they get any custom at all. Luckily, their reputation is wide spread, and you're likely to find their donuts - made with loving care and entirely delicious - sold out by the early afternoon. Our advice: get there as early as you can. On our last visit, we arrived at 8.45am, enjoyed a quiet half hour sitting in the morning sun as it seeped through the fusuma, and left suitably breakfasted, feeling as though we had just spent time in a Hayao Miyazaki movie.

The street Haritts is situated on is more a side path, but it's extremely close to the station, making it a great spot to stop off at on your way to somewhere in town. Built into the hollowed out first floor of a nondescript Japanese house, you'll need to look closely at the name plates in order to distinguish it from the other buildings on the street, but the interior most likely differs in that it has done away with all mod cons, giving it the appearance of something from a bygone era. It seats no more than about 10 people at most, and it's largely known for its take out treats, but pull up a little wooden chair, a fresh coffee and (in our opinion) one of the best donuts Tokyo has to offer. You'll be really glad you did.
