Azabu Juban maintains its old-town atmosphere despite being near the centre of the shopping promenade. The most popular dish in this Japanese ‘izakaya’, or pub-restaurant, is the ‘oden’, prepared with a blend of eight different soup stocks which are flavoured simply with salt from the Noto peninsula. The home-cured fish, using produce bought fresh at the famous Tsukiji markets, is one of the dishes they are particularly proud of. The fish, which are high enough quality to be used for sashimi, are cured after carefully removing the bones. This is the perfect place to enjoy a quiet drink with a friend.
