Granted, it’s not going to appeal to everyone, but intrepid gourmands looking to devour the world’s largest mammal can do so at this traditional whale restaurant. Ganso Kujiraya first opened in 1950, and now sits right next to the Shibuya teen-fashion Mecca of 109 – though we're guessing that there isn't much crossover audience. Making the most of its star ingredient, the restaurant serves up just about every cut of whale imaginable – try the akami (lean meat) sashimi, hari-hari nabe hotpot or whale karaage, or go overboard (sorry) with a full course meal, available from ¥3,500.
