Review

The first time Ben & Jerry's tried to make it in Japan, things didn't really work out. Trying to replicate the success of arch-rivals Häagen-Dazs, the self-proclaimed 'premium ice cream' makers inked an exclusive distribution deal with 7-Eleven in 1997 – but it turned out that convenience stores weren't the best places to start winning hearts and minds. Fifteen years on, the company gave it another shot, this time in the form of its first Japanese outlet. Opened on the ground floor of Omotesando Hills in 2012, the shop sells familiar favourites like Cherry Garcia, Phish Food and Coffee Coffee Buzz Buzz Buzz! (gotta love that one), alongside sundaes, shakes and a few Japan originals.
