This venerable izakaya provides one of the most charming dining experiences in central Tokyo. Perch yourself on one of the wooden seats and pick from the freshly prepared dishes arrayed in huge bowls on the giant counter. The food is a curious mix of Japanese and Western – salads, pork in cream sauce, tofu dishes and tomato-based veggie stews – which goes just as well with wine as with sake.
