Review

Cute and quirky Japanese sweets are the speciality of this wagashi (traditional Japanese confectionery) shop, near the east exit of Nippori Station. The impish sense of humour on display at Edo Usagi is understandable: it's a subsidiary of Omiyage Daito, the company responsible for all those sweets decorated with the faces of Japanese politicians. The shop sells sweet and savoury treats to eat in or take away, including niku-man buns and the misleading titled '¥10 manju' (they actually cost ¥105 for eight). Best of all are the 'Yokai Ichigo Daifuku' (¥180), bean-filled rice cakes shaped to resemble goblins, each with a whole strawberry stuffed in its mouth.
