Review

It may be just around the corner from Takeshita-dori, but the teen fashion crowd feels a long way away at this craft beer bar run by Numazu's Baird Brewing. Harajuku Taproom serves the same beers you'll find at Baird's other pubs in Nakameguro, Bashamichi and Numazu, but with a more izakaya-style menu of kushiyaki skewers, tamagoyaki egg rolls and gyoza. There are 15 microbrews on tap, including a couple of hand-pumped ales, with year-round Baird staples like the excellent Teikoku IPA supplemented by a few seasonal offerings and guest beers. Added bonus: Harajuku Taproom opens from noon at weekends and on national holidays, when the donburi (rice bowl) and curry sets make it a tempting option for (liquid) lunch.
