This famous ramen shop is known for pioneering the nimosaku (literally, two crops) business model. From 11am to 3pm each day, it sates the appetites of the lunchtime crowd with hearty bowls of shio (salt) ramen, served up under the name Hirugao. At night, it transforms into Setagaya, where the speciality is ramen made with fish stock. The signature Setagaya ramen (¥1,000) comes in a rich, soy-based soup made from fish and meat stock, topped with delicately cooked ajitama (slow-boiled egg), tender chashu pork slices and aosanori seaweed. Even diners who aren't fond of fish broth may be won over by the subtle flavours on show here; other menu items include hearty gyoro ramen (¥900), Setagaya-style tsukemen (dipping noodles, ¥1,050) and wontonmen (¥900). Located on Kannana-Dori, near Komazawa-Koen Station on the Denentoshi line, Setagaya has remained a popular spot for more than 10 years now. Two-timing ain't so bad after all, it seems.
