When Kenny Barron was named a Jazz Master by the National Endowment for the Arts in 2010, one of his first reactions was, 'Damn, am I really this old?' The same thought might occur to him during these 70th birthday gigs at the Blue Note, where the swinging, lyrical pianist appears in his regular trio with bassist Kiyoshi Kitagawa and drummer Jonathan Blake.
