McCoy Tyner Trio with Gary Bartz

Sat Nov 10, 2012 Blue Note Tokyo

Time Out says

Though he'll forever be remembered for his role in John Coltrane's group in the first half of the 1960s, there's a lot more to McCoy Tyner than that. The 73-year-old Philadelphia native has been a towering presence in the world of jazz piano for decades, famed for his distinctive, staccato right-hand soloing style. Recent shows prove that he's still a vigorously energetic player (even if he isn't as steady on his feet as he used to be), and he should be on good form at this Blue Note date, featuring a guest appearance from saxophonist – and longtime Tyner associate – Gary Bartz.
