If they're one of the more neglected acts of the original post-punk generation, it hasn't been for want of trying. The Monochrome Set have reunited a few times since their first official split in 1985, and even found an enthusiastic audience in Japan during the '90s. The band – currently consisting of vocalist Ganesh 'Bid' Seshadri, guitarist Lester Square and bassist Andy Warren, plus Scarlet's Well member Helena Johansson on violin and Steve Brummell on drums – have been back in Japan this month, following a tour here in April last year and with a new album under their belt, Platinum Coils. Support for the final date of the trip comes from local post-punk devotees Lilies and Remains and the more shoegazey Caucus.
