Review

So you thought Himalayan Pink Salt was unique? Science graduate and salt expert Sonoko Tanaka, who opened her shop Solco in December 2014, provides a whole new world of experimentation for salt addicts. She sources the different types of salt from Japan and around the world, always carefully analysing taste and compatibility with different foods. Next to each salt on display, you'll find a card describing the characteristics, origin and taste, and the story of each salt.

One of the most popular types is the White Truffle Salt, a blend of rare white truffle and sun-dried salt, produced in Guerande, France. With its strong garlic scent, it's recommended for egg-based dishes or salads. You can taste the salts before buying, or experience the flavour in organic deli dishes, created in collaboration with chef and Indian spice specialist Shankar Noguchi. Tuck into rice balls, croquettes, salt caramel cake, salt cookies, assorted sweets or the popular Solco lunch box.
