Tokyo's pancake revolution (you read about it here first, folks!) keeps on rumbling forward. Following the lead of breakfast specialists Bills, Bubby's, Sarabeth's, et al., another well-regarded international name entered the fray this year, as Portland's Slappy Cakes opened its first Tokyo branch in Shinjuku. The original restaurant earned a mention in Food Network Magazine's 'America's Best: Top Ten Destinations' list, not least for the fact that customers can cook their own pancakes on a hotplate at their table. The Shinjuku shop repeats the trick (though you can also have your pancakes cooked to order), as well as offering dishes like Crab Cake Benedict and the original Slappy Burger.
