Review

Personality goes a long way. While some of Tokyo's best coffee shops are content to scare off potential clientele with their strict rules, no-camera policies and overwhelming aura of fussiness, Be A Good Neighbor just wants to share a decent brew. Opened by the former editor of lifestyle magazine Relax, this coffee stand crams a lot of action into its tiny corner-shop perch, on a back street five minutes' walk from Harajuku Station. Most of the beans come courtesy of Kagoshima boutique coffee shop Voila, and are prepared in a variety of styles: drip, French press, espresso and – if you ask nicely – with an AeroPress. There's no seating inside the shop, but the staff are more than happy to talk coffee and brewing techniques if you feel like lingering. And if coffee's not your thing, there's also a selection of teas, scones and cakes on offer.
