Veteran session musician and songwriter Leon Russell had vanished into obscurity when Elton John – who'd cited him as an early influence - approached him about a collaboration. The resulting album, 2010's The Union, went to #3 in the US album charts, and Russell was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame the following year. Well, better late than never. Catch the 'A Song for You' troubadour when he plays at Billboard Live this month.
