Part of the same huge complex as the NNTT, Tokyo Opera City presents all sorts of classical music events, but not - despite its name - much opera. The lobby’s fusion of architectural styles is a sign of what’s to come in the Main Hall; the base of the hall is in the prevalent shoebox shape but rises into a soaring pyramid topped by a glass skylight. Built for the most advanced sound technology, the auditorium has a bright oak interior with a 3,826-pipe organ as its centrepiece. There’s a space for solo performances too, which has also been designed to give the best acoustics.
