Two Photographers: Robert Capa Centennial / Gerda Taro Retrospective

Sat Jan 26 - Sun Mar 24, 2013 Yokohama Museum of Art

Time Out says

Photographer Endre Erno Friedmann found widespread fame when he adopted the pseudonym Robert Capa, but he wasn't the only person to work under the name. Then-girlfriend Gerda Taro (born Gerta Pohorylle) created the moniker with Friedmann after the two met in Paris in 1934, using it to sell their photojournalism together. Both would eventually lose their lives in the course of duty – Taro while covering the Spanish Civil War in 1937, and Capa documenting the First Indochina War in 1954. This retrospective exhibition, held to coincide with the centenary of Capa's birth, presents work by both, in a pair of solo shows that span nearly 300 photos in total. For anyone with even a passing interest in the early days of photojournalism, it promises to be unmissable.
