Tokyo’s edgiest wall tags won’t be found on a train overpass in Nakano or a neglected neighbourhood wall in Shibuya’s Udagawacho. In fact, they’re right in Ebisu. Red-hot British street artist Nick Walker has added his art to Tokyo’s emerging urban art scene.
Walker, who got his start spraying the walls of Bristol along with the likes of Banksy, is best known for his works ‘Moona Lisa’ and the ‘Morning After’ series. These images have become vehicles for his much talked-about success; a 2008 sale of his works by London’s Black Rat Gallery netted £750,000 (over ¥107,000,000).
The artist spent a recent cold autumn evening in Tokyo, arting up the walls of LIQUIDROOM and Time Out Café & Diner.
