Ryuichi Sakamoto and a selection of younger artists gather at Unit on Friday evening to contemplate the state of post-meltdown Japan – and also make some good music. The YMO mainstay will be taking part in a panel discussion with fellow art scene veterans Reiko Yuyama and Mitsuo Shindo, as well as playing in a potentially ace trio with tabla maestro U-zhaan and Mitsu The Beats, best known as leftfield producer for hip hop crew Gagle. With further sets from tape deck manipulators Open Reel Ensemble, Honaga Yoko Project and a duo between beatboxer Afra and guitarist Daiho Soga, it promises to be an entertaining night, however serious the theme.
