How do you respond to tragedy when the only language you have is... jazz? Bassist and composer Jyoji Sawada will be finding out this weekend, when he marks the first anniversary of the March 11 quake and tsunami with the debut of this new ensemble. In the No Nukes Jazz Orchestra, Sawada leads veteran musicians including drummer Yasuhiro Yoshigaki and pianist Hiroshi Minami in an attempt to 'create a sonic description of what has happened in Japan after the [Fukushima] incident'.
