You could probably write a thesis about the stuff that Chris Menist and Maft Sai get up to. The Bangkok-based DJs – one a Brit, the other British-educated – have for the past few years been schooling the city's hip clubbers in the history of Thai music, albeit a carefully curated selection of retro records that are likely to appeal to Western ears (gotta love that Black Sabbath cover). It may not be representative of Thai music as a whole, but it's infectious as hell. Alongside their regular Paradise Bangkok parties, the duo have been responsible for compilations including the Thai Funk series, last year's excellent The Sound of Siam on Soundway Records, and the more recent Thai? Dai! on Finders Keepers. Fans of esoteric sounds really can't go wrong with this one.
