This kid-friendly café, found on the second floor of a Kameido mall that’s seen its best days, enjoys a sort of cult popularity among young families in the neighbourhood. Chokotaki is especially well known for its ice cream-topped Danish bread desserts and extravagant hot chocolates, finished off with ample amounts of whipped cream, but also serves savoury children’s favourites like ‘doria’ (a kind of rice gratin), hamburgers, curry and ‘omu-rice’. The food is hardly memorable for adult palates, but keeps the young ‘uns happy and offers enough variety to merit repeat visits. Considering the quality, prices are a little above average – around ¥1,000 for the burgers, ¥550 or so for the desserts. Note that although the place officially stays open until 11pm, it often closes down for private birthday parties and other events in the evenings.
