Gone are the days you couldn't find a decent breakfast spot in Tokyo. Eggcellent opens at 7am (8am on weekends) and has been satisfying early birds with a range of Eggs Benedict (made with organic eggs) since November 2013. Go for the Original Benedict (¥1,300) if you're a purist, or switch things up with the AM Eggcellent Benedict (¥1,600) which comes with avocado, maguro and rice instead of an English muffin. If your sweet tooth is an early riser too, head straight for the pancakes served with peanut cream, whipped butter, jam or maple syrup (¥1,000) or the ones topped with coconut sauce, macadamia nuts and roasted coconut flakes (¥1,300). Mouth watering yet?
Inside the restaurant, light streams in through floor-to-ceiling windows, giving a warm glow to the wood decor. The tables are arranged so that you can either take up a window seat for four, or nab a spot at the centre island, which features a row of seats perfect for solo brunchers. They also have seating outside but if you prefer not to have to talk over the roar of passing trucks, stick with indoor dining. That said, we were seated outside on a comfy terrace couch with a lovely view of the city just beyond us, so the noise was hardly enough to detract from an all-round delicious breakfast eggsperience (sorry, we couldn't resist).
