The name of this Ueno dining complex is actually a clever tribute to 19th century samurai reformer Saigo Takamori (those numbers can be read as ‘Saigo-san’, or Mr Saigo). The sleek, glass-fronted Ueno 3153 opened in September 2012, replacing the dilapidated Saigo Kaikan building that used to sit opposite the station. Inside, you'll find branches of restaurants including seafood specialists Uosen, beer hall Ginza Lion and Western-style eatery Seiyoken, which has been running since the days of Takamori himself.
