Mixing familiar indie-disco tropes with a dash of kwela from their native South Africa, Pretoria's Desmond & The Tutus have shot to the forefront of the guitar band scene at home, even as they've struggled to broaden their appeal overseas. All except in Japan, that is: the band toured here in 2010 (an experience they've described as the highlight of their career to date), and will be returning this month in support of sophomore album Mnusic. The first date of the tour features energetic local support from Sawagi and The Chef Cooks Me; catch them again at Shinjuku Marz on May 29.
