Sakata Akira Group & Cortex

Tue Dec 18, 2012 SuperDeluxe

Time Out says

One of Japan's most respected jazz musicians, reedsman Akira Sakata may be in his late '60s now, but he can still out-blow players half his age. Appropriately enough, his current group draws on a younger generation of musicians from the Tokyo scene: pedigreed improvisers Daisuke Takaoka (tuba) and Tatsuhisa Yamamoto (drums) and – a more surprising choice, perhaps – Zazen Boys guitarist Sou Yoshikane. For this Christmas concert at SuperDeluxe, the quartet are joined by Norwegian free jazz aficionados Cortex.
