Metamorphose Spring 12

Sat May 12, 2012 Makuhari Messe
The Flaming Lips

Time Out says

When a typhoon forced the last-minute cancellation of outdoor party Metamorphose 2011, it sent clubs around Tokyo scurrying to find space for all the DJs and acts who'd gathered for the event. What we hadn't expected was that the organisers would reconvene many of the same artists for a second attempt – this one indoors, just to be on the safe side.

2011's headliners The Flaming Lips (who apparently spent the night of the original event getting drunk in their hotel bar) will be returning, while reformed '90s act Orbital are pencilled in to play a full live set this time around. They aren't the only acts who are returning, though: Galaxy 2 Galaxy, Derrick May, Ebo Taylor and Afrobeat Academy, Moodymann and Tim Deluxe are all back on board, with the latter appearing in a tagteam with fellow superstar DJ Darren Emerson. Gorillaz Sound System, Lindstrom, Adrian Sherwood and others have also been added to the bill, just for good measure. It remains to be seen whether the event can capture the atmosphere of Metamorphose proper when it's being held in the notoriously sterile Makuhari Messe, but the organisers have already got one thing right: after announcing that this would be a daytime-only event, they've since revealed that the DJs will keep spinning all night long.
