One of the most influential figures in the 1960s and 1970s jazz scene, tenor saxophonist Pharaoh Sanders came up through bands with Sun Ra and John Coltrane before establishing himself at the forefront of the spiritual jazz movement. Though he'll be arriving in Tokyo just after his 71st birthday, he still has the stamina to perform 40-minute renditions of 'My Favourite Things' and unleash his trademark 'sheets of sound' and impassioned vocalisations. There's currently no word as to who Sanders will be appearing with at Billboard Live, though listeners who like their jazz served with a generous helping of fire and bluster are unlikely to mind either way.
