Condomania has two shops in Tokyo, the more prominent one being in Harajuku, where it sits on the corner of Omotesando and Meiji Dori, daring tourists to miss it. This fractionally smaller sibling, located in Shibuya's Udagawacho district, is the one we are concerned with here. It has an older, slightly more intimate feel – just the atmosphere you want in a novelty sex shop.
And novelty is all there is to Condomania, when all's said and done. Originally launched on Bleecker Street, NYC, in 1991, its purpose is obvious, though don't expect to find a vast stock of genuinely useful products. Perhaps in an attempt to take any minor embarrassment out of your visit, the cupboard-like Shibuya shop places its jokey items upfront, so you can laugh over a Superman sheath and guffaw at mini condoms for miniscule men before getting down to the serious business of deciding on a prophylactic for your own wee person. It's basically the Kiss Me Quick of sex shops; if you don't find a souvenir here for your randy uncle back home, then you're not looking properly.
