There are several branches of the Wild One sex shop chain around Tokyo, but for this report we'll focus on the one in Dogenzaka (the main branch is just around the corner on Love Hotel Hill, though aside from its only real attraction – a genitalia-shaped front door, obligatory photo thereof below – it's not as eye-catching as this one). It's on the same street as C'est Bien, and with its brash English display boards, it's very hard to miss.
Descending to a dungeon-like basement doorway, the first thing you'll come across is a 'gachapon' game (¥500 a pop) with fake vaginas as prizes. Surrounding these popular machines is an overspill of cosplay clothing, as though the shop itself simply doesn't have enough room. Push your way in, however, and you'll see that it's actually quite large, with a well-stocked shelf of foot-long vibrators threatening to topple if you linger too long on the threshold. English signs are everywhere, promising discreet packaging and other friendly services, as if they've set the shop up with foreign sex tourists specifically in mind. If you're after an unusual Tokyo souvenir, how about a water-proof poster of a Japanese porn actress, cheap at ¥1,500? We certainly didn't leave with our hands empty.
The prize for the strangest item went to the Super Tobikko Deluxe 2, a vicious looking dildo with teeth (¥8,500). Go on: give Grandma the shock of her life this coming Christmas – from Tokyo with love.
