Review

Established in 1872 in Shiga prefecture, this Japanese-style confectioner uses fresh ingredients from the proprietary farms originating from the Oumi area’s rich natural areas. These ingredients include strawberries, yomogi (mugwort) and black soy beans. In addition to seasonal offerings like sakura-mochi, Taneya is also known for its filled wafer monaka sweets. Bean fillings and the wafer casings can be purchased separately to retain the freshness and crunchy texture of the wafer.
