Nepalese cuisine, with its stunning variety of flavours, ingredients and cooking styles, is indicative of the mountainous country's precarious position on the 'top of the world', squeezed in between the two giants China and India. Nepalese food is rather well represented on the Tokyo restaurant circuit, even if many imposter joints serve the same old 'Indian curry' available in every single city neighbourhood. For an authentic experience, Eifukucho's Nepali Chulo is one of the best choices: the menu includes rarities like Tibetan-style thukpa noodle soup and basics such as dal-bhat-tarkari, a plate with soup, rice and vegetables, in addition to the creamy, mild curries. Their curry lunch sets are great value, and come with salad, pickles, a drink, a choice of curry, and all the naan or rice you can fit – make sure to try the spinach naan for some extra flavour. Oh, and don't let the chain restaurant-like exterior scare you off – the inside is nice and comfy, not to mention that they've managed to avoid over-decorating the place with 'traditional' souvenirs and the like.
