Heavy metal has often lurked in the background of Ivan Pavlov's work as CoH. The Russian-born, Stockholm-based sound artist – a former collaborator with Coil and longtime associate of avant-garde labels including Raster Noton and Mego – tends to favour a very precise kind of sonic violence, and his discography is rife with references to the headbanging crowd, whether it's the title of his first album (Enter Tinnitus) or the dedication of 2000's Iron to 'heavy metal fans all over the world'. He'll be doing the devil horns sign (well, perhaps not literally) at SuperDeluxe this week, in what's being tantalisingly billed as a 'Hardbeats & Metal Guitar Set', with support from unhinged rock trio Vovivav and techno producer Shotaro Hirata.
