There are certain people in the Time Out office who've been counting down the hours – nay, minutes – until the first Tokyo branch of Ben & Jerry's opens this weekend. Given the kind of crowds that Krispy Kreme drew when it first set up shop here, the 'premium ice cream' emporium could probably have counted on a ludicrous turnout even without offering free cones... but that's what they're doing anyway. Following the example of Ben & Jerry's branches around the world – which hold a similar giveaway every April 3 – the Omotesando Hills shop will mark its opening day by serving up free ice cream to all and sundry. Sounds like an unmissable deal, but we'd recommend bringing a good book: there's probably going to be quite a wait.
