Review

A little box of a venue that punches well above its size. Ruby Room holds around 150 people, yet has drawn acts including Basement Jaxx, Hernan Cattaneo and Belle & Sebastian to play impromptu sets. It remains a hugely popular spot for expats and club-conscious Tokyoites, despite a bizarre renovation in 2006 that saw a huge chunk of the floor space given over to a semi-private booth that looks very much like a toilet. Events are varied, but the monthly breaks party ‘Deck ’n’ Effect’ is always reliable and busy.
