Ame-Yoko (from ‘Ameya-Yokocho’) is a busy shopping street where clusters of food, clothing and bits-and-bobs all jostle for attention, and has a diverse atmosphere that’s part of its charm. Ame-Yoko Camera is a film-only speciality store which is packed with SLRs and lenses. The owner, Tomeo Tanaka, is passionate about film cameras rather than the more popular digital models. He offers very polite and thorough advice to all customers, and has a strong reputation for repairing broken cameras refused by the manufacturers. The shop is also an informal place for film buffs to meet and exchange information.
