Review

Drink from antique glasses and goblets, surrounded by chandeliers, ornate pictures and stuffed animal heads – who knew that you could cram so much decadence into such a tiny bar? Created by Hayao Matsumura, the impresario behind such extravagant hotspots as Trump Room and vintage clothing shop Nude Trump, Bar Piano is perhaps the strangest offering to be found in Shibuya's characterful Nonbei Yokocho bar district. There's only space for three people at the ground floor bar counter (which – true to the name – is fashioned from an upright piano), so you'd do better to head up the steep staircase and snag a seat amidst the ostentatious decorations upstairs instead. The drink selection includes Calvados and fresh fruit cocktails, and be warned that there's a ¥1,000 seating charge.
