Tonight in Tokyo

Artist: Sandie Shaw
Available on: Pop Masters: Mama Roux
Time Out says: A little-known classic from the woman most notorious for not wearing shoes on TV (how times change). It's no 'Puppet on a String', but it's catchy enough, with the reedy-voiced Shaw warbling about a boy in Tokyo who's sure to be having a poor old time because he doesn't have his Sandie there with him. Wishful thinking on Sandie's part, we suspect. Truth be told, this is another track in which the eponymous city could've been anywhere. Tokyo rhymes better with the line 'hurry home' than Shaw's beloved Dagenham does, and in such accidental ways minor hits are made.
