After re-opening its newly refurbished Harajuku shop for men, Harajuku for Men, in April, United Arrows – a select shop with a history stretching back over twenty years – reopened its Harajuku for Women store on Saturday October 23. Touting a concept of ‘living in abundance’ and seven keywords – ‘fashion’, ‘food’, ‘home’, ‘play’, ‘harmony’, ‘beauty’ and ‘health’ – the new store offers a number of goods and services for customers looking to introduce a little extra style into their lives.
The store’s new interior design makes the most of natural lighting and space to create an atmosphere that feels almost homely – creating an ideal shopping environment in which its all to easy to lose track of time, which is no doubt exactly what the designers were aiming at when they decided to create a House of United Arrows. On the first floor, you’ll find the On-time Wardrobe shop-floor, which puts the focus firmly on ‘fashion’ by offering attire suitable for business and formal occasions by both United Arrows’s own UA Brand and various well-known domestic and foreign designer labels.
Additionally, by housing Tokyo’s first Gion Tokuya sweet parlour, the first floor also brings attention to ‘food’ by establishing the first place outside of Gion, in Kyoto, to offer sweets by these renowned masters of Japanese confectionary. If you’re unsure where to begin, try the Tokuya no Hon Warabimochi, which is made using nothing but the finest quality starch and is reputed to be one of the reasons that United Arrow’s Representative Director, Osamu Shigematsu, extended an invite for Gion Tokuya to set up shop here.
On the first basement level, contrary to the On-time Wardrobe, you’ll find the Off-time Wardrobe – a space that puts the focus on ‘fashion’ and ‘home’ by offering a range of casual clothing by another United Arrow brand Style for Living, plus a range of fashionable sportswear by brands such as Sounds Good – perfect for when you’re looking for something to wear when you’re away from the office.
In addition to fashion, the newly refurbished store also offers a relaxation and beauty area, A Twig, by hair-and-make-up artist Miho Matsuura’s hair salon Twiggy and nail salon Viens Viens – bringing focus to ‘beauty’ and ‘health’ by offering relaxing head spas and nail treatments.
At the centre of the first basement level, the store also boasts an event space consisting of a kitchen studio and a three-metre long dining table that can be used for lessons and workshops – bringing the focus to our final two keywords: ‘play’ and ‘harmony’. Current events on offer include a workshop on creating flower wreaths that can be used to decorate walls or tabletops no matter what the season, taught by Kazumi Hirai, and lessons on home parties with an emphasis on appropriate cuisine and hospitality, taught by Tomo Kurihara.
