Ukiyo-e Master Utagawa Kuniyoshi

Sat Aug 1 - Sun Aug 30, 2015 Sogo Museum of Art

Time Out says

Ukiyo-e enthusiasts sure have it good in and around Tokyo this summer: both the Mitsui and the Ota museums are celebrating 250 years of woodblock printing in colour, and now Yokohama's Sogo Museum puts on this exhibit highlighting one of the late Edo era's greatest masters. Working across genres from traditional bijin-ga portraits to landscape depictions incorporating Western techniques, Utagawa Kuniyoshi pushed ukiyo-e forward with innovation and humour, becoming one of the most popular artists of his time. Divided into nine categories, this display recounts his career through around 200 pieces. Note that some of the exhibits will be changed after August 16 – visit both before and after that date and get ¥200 off your second ticket (bring your first stub for proof).
