Leonardo da Vinci and The Battle of Anghiari

Known as the 'Lost Leonardo', da Vinci's 'The Battle of Anghiari' was an incomplete mural painted by the Renaissance master on the walls of the Salone dei Cinquecento in Florence's Palazzo Vecchio. Abandoned halfway by da Vinci, it was later painted over, leaving only the artist's original drawings and a vast collection of replicas to be admired. In addition to a selection of Leonardo's sketches and preparatory work, this exhibition at Hachioji's Fuji Museum displays two recreations depicting central parts of 'The Battle of Anghiari': the 'Tavola Doria' and a wood-panel replica of 'Battle of Cascina'. Providing a comprehensive introduction to this mysterious masterpiece, believed by some to still exist intact inside the walls of the Palazzo Vecchio, this one should be worth the long trip west.
