FAC51 The Haçienda: CANCELLED

Seminal bands reforming, reformed bands touring their most seminal albums, bands who weren't even seminal to start with getting back together anyway – these are nostalgic times indeed. But what's a man to do when he hates his former bandmates, and his group's singer has been dead for three decades? If you're Peter Hook, you take the show on the road anyway. The one-time Joy Division and New Order bassist has earned himself a fair amount of opprobrium for his latest venture: touring the world with a live version of Joy Division's 1979 album Unknown Pleasures, without the rest of the band. The show sees Hook filling in for vocalist Ian Curtis (who took his own life in 1980), backed by his current group, The Light. A dubious artistic exercise, maybe, but the response to his shows in other countries suggests that it only takes a quick blast of 'Disorder' to make most audiences swallow their misgivings.

Hook's Joy Division tribute is the main highlight in a night that aims to recapture the spirit of Manchester's Haçienda club, the famed (and famously loss-making) nightspot set up by New Order and Factory Records in 1982, and which would become ground zero for the 'acid house' movement later in the decade. Elsewhere on the bill, you'll find rehabilitated electroclash star Felix Da Housecat, Basement Jaxx (in their DJ incarnation), Japanese house producer Sugiurumn, and Tokyo-based superstar DJ Bryan Burton-Lewis.
