In one of the last gasps of the summer festival season, a sizeable bunch of ravers headed to the hills around Sagamiko for Freaks Village, a two-day reprise of the Freaks Music Festival that took place at the same location last Golden Week. Such was the magnitude of our hangovers that we didn't make it to the second day, but the first was a real treat, with strong sets from Craig Richards, Surgeon, Lucy and Mathew Jonson, liberal doses of sunshine, and one of the more attractive crowds we've seen all year. Hardcore festival-goers might complain that it's just a poor man's Labyrinth, and attendance probably wasn't quite what the organisers had hoped for, but given the quality of the lineup and its proximity to Tokyo, we're hoping that Freaks becomes a regular fixture on the fest calendar.
