9: Futaba Tofu: Tonyu donut

The tonyu donut (tonyu being soy milk) may sound like a healthy choice, but the oil content of these 'traditional' rings could fell a man at three hearty bites. Still, they're not particularly sweet, nicely textured at the centre (not too dry) and you're left feeling as though you've hardly eaten anything – surely cause for concern when they're priced at less than ¥100 a piece. Tonyu donut. ¥310 for three, ¥500 for five. Available from Futaba Tofu, Ningyocho
