Miyavi answers your questions

We asked followers of our Time Out Tokyo Twitter account to tweet questions for Miyavi. Here's how he answered.

@KaitouMika: How does Miyavi decide who to reply to on Twitter, and will he ever start using Facebook?
I don't reply to everybody. I'd love to, especially to my fans, but I think they'd like me to compose music! [Laughs] That's what I've been feeling. Everybody has been tweeting, you know, 'Please celebrate my birthday...' I really want to do it, but if I start doing that I'll have no time to be an artist. That's why I'm trying to make some account with the fan club, so we can manage it easily; so that I can respond at some point...not everyday! [Laughs] We have chat events with the fan club, which is fun and easy. But usual conversation on Twitter is pretty hard. But I do check all the comments everyday. I hope everyone understands. I have Facebook, too. It's my account. I do it.

@ungodubiquitous: Where do you get your inspiration?
Just daily life. From the news, or what my kids are doing, or from movies. Everything. I want to sing my soul — not just the facts or feelings, like, 'I love you, I love you, I love you'... so what! I think music should be positive towards life. We can survive without music — just eat, sleep, have sex — but, with music, it'll be more fun. I'm trying to make something positive, to cheer people up.

@punkyheart: Are you still good friends with Maya from LMC?
Yeah, yeah! Do we still hang out? No, not recently. I have no time. I have to take care of my kids.

@Anbu_Rose: If you could learn one instrument you can't already play, what would it be?
Only instruments? [Long pause, muttering in Japanese, general thinking sounds] Beat boxing or turntables. I have a turntable, but I gave up. It's pretty hard.

@Zalmaa: Any plans to head back to Mexico?
I've been to Mexico, but no plans for now. In the future, of course. I'm just going to Europe this year. Other countries are still being planned.

@beboptilyoudrop: Which are your favourite Tokyo eateries?
In Tokyo? If I say that, I can't go to them anymore! [Laughs] That's the problem with sharing private things! How about live houses [concert venues]? I really like Liquidroom. They have a restaurant, too, and a good sound system. I also like Air. They have pretty cool events — my friend organises them.

@jayparaphrased: What scares you? Spiders? Roaches?
Nothing really. I'm fine. Just my second daughter! I can't stop her crying! She scares me everyday. Do they realise that I'm a musician? Yeah! My eldest bangs her head and stomps around. Do I sing to them? Yeah, but my style is just shouting, so then they really start crying!
